The Introduction : Why ?

I am new user of Android…new user of Tablet and definitely just got my Galaxy Tab about 2 weeks ago (this date 8th June 2011). Considering the short life cycle of mobile device nowadays, and the ever fast launching of new updated product, perhaps I am lil bit late to join the tablet circus moreover with the launching of the Honeycomb Tablet at just around the corner (or in some places you can already get the Honeycomb Tablet) (FYI - the SGT was launched late last year)

Getting the SGT for the first time, I was enthralled by the concept of Tablet. Prior to that I am quite a heavy user and had within my life cycle quite a number of handphone / PDA / PDA Phone/ Smart Phone and now a Tablet. Like anyone else, we all started with Nokia. Don’t we?
My handphone history.....:)

The decision to get a tablet for myself, apart from my anxiety on getting the latest technology in my hand plus the obsession on getting information direct to my gadget at the blink of the eyes, was also driven by my frustration of my previous handheld device. Whatever name you want to name it. Back in 2005, I was the early adopter to PDA Phone concept. Back then I was having two units, A Nokia mobile phone and a PDA. My previous PDA was on Window Mobile 5. And oddly, unlike many others I do enjoy many aspect of the operating system. It work the way I want it and I love it. But soon the idea of having two devices at a time kills. Hate the heavy load so manage to earn enough to get me a PDA Phone. A HP. Still on Window Mobile 5 but with phone capabilities. It wasn’t perfect, it has limitation but man I adore it. It was really fun.

Then I evolved, I goes back and forth. Ventures into Symbian, then to Window 6.5, back to Symbian, then to ever great OS then to Symbian ^3 and finally to Android. And my very first android is the Froyo JMK version. Now, prior to android, I was with Nokia N8 with Symbian ^3 and prior to that I was with this old iPhone 3G with the latest OS4.

So, when I was with the iPhone, I really love the OS.But deep down, I am not happy for it is lack of one thing. WIDGET. And specifically the Calendar / Organizer widget. The OS has notification and all, but unlike even my first experience with Window Mobile 5, there is no calendar on display so I can plan my day ahead. So used to it, I hate the fact that I need to open the calendar in OS to know what is up for the next couple of days. Frustrated, I start to drop usage of calendar resulting me forgetting some meeting I suppose to attend. That is how bad I am .I have way too many things at a time and I really need the widget. To make matter worst, like many others when Steve Jobs announce the latest OS4, I jump up and down excitedly and within minutes I downloaded the upgrade. Bummer, it turn my phone into horrible monster. The OS is great, but the processor on my phone can’t handle it well. I hate it.

So, knowing that I need widget, and with the offering of 12mp camera, I switched to the old school Nokia with N8 model and yes, it is old school. I was pissed. Nothing work on it other than the beautiful camera and amazing GPS. Other than that suck. To make matter worst, the email is not push email and no compatible push email app available for it. Damn it I need my emails. So a month down the road, I start planning for something else and start studying about Android. No more impulsive purchase. From the research I admit, there is no one perfect operating system. One flaw perfected by the other greatness. But somehow I feel this android platform worth trying for.

On the other note, I also consider that my constant fidgeting would require a bigger phone than usual. Better still I need a computer that work like phone. An iPad seem interesting but iPad stand still as merely a tablet and not more than that. That bring me to SGT.

Needless to say, I am happy with SGT. It work they way I want it but as anything else, nothing is perfect. So I work out my way to understand my SGT and Android better. Been contemplating to root it but for now, I would like to focus optimization of usage before I move on to another level. And I am writing this blog, in the hope others can learn from my adventure as well. Cheers
