TIPS & TRICK - GET STARTED

As any other phone, the almost immediate thing I would do with it is to sync all the info from my PC to the phone. This ensure continuation of usage. All my contacts, calendar, document, picture etc are stored in my PC. Now as android user, what make it interesting would be that you would have three options. To depend on data on your pc (synchronization with outlook), or to depend on Google in which you can sync you data like contact and calendar exactly like outlook, but your data is stored online. So you can sync on air. Last but not least, you can depend on both

For me, I don’t like having both, as there would be possibilities that you would end up double data entry. Furthermore through KIES, you can’t sync your new data to outlook if the data stored in Google. So that is a hassle if you want to ensure that your pc kept same up to date data with your phone. Last but not least, I am old school. In some way or another I don’t trust security on the net. I am worried that someone could hack into Google system someday (which is very possible) and stole my data. So I decided that I refuse to sync any data to my Google account other than the email.

But now the disadvantages to that would be, in the event you forgot to sync your latest data with your pc and something bad happened to your phone, you might lose your new data. With Google sync the synchronization happen almost immediately. So really choose wisely. For people like me who regularly hook up my phone to my pc (almost daily) I don’t worry about it that much.

Now, when you open up the box, unlike buying phone before year 2007 where most of the time it will be accompanied with installation CD that gave you the driver and sync platform, nowadays most handphone maker like to take thing for granted that everybody has internet connection and would be able to download latest software. And with that assumption, they also believe if they invest 50 cents for the CD, you would download the latest available software anyway (assuming your mobile unit was shipped out several months before your purchase (which again likely to happen))

So, I downloaded Samsung Kies, the Samsung version of iTunes, ovi, active sync etc. From what I experienced with Samsung Kies, it is quite user friendly. A bit resemblance of iTunes here and there .So I downloaded the latest version from their website www.samsungapps.com

Once you have it on your pc, you can hook the unique to Samsung USB data cable from your phone to your laptop. There you can customize amount of details you want to sync and once done, Walla your phone is good to go.
